The rotary switch is essentially a kind of knife switch, except that the operating handle of the general knife switch is rotated up or down in a plane perpendicular to the mounting surface, while the operating handle of the rotary switch is in parallel to its mounting surface. In the plane, it just rotates to the left and right. It can be used to connect or break circuits, switch power sources or loads, measure three-phase voltage, and control the forward and reverse rotation of small motors.
